She did what she had wanted to do since she laid her eyes on the woman.
She screamed.

The sound echoed, sharp and hollow in the immediate silence. Selena let her hand drop, pushing away the twinge of regret. Hanna touched an open palm to the blossoming red.

"Hannah?" Selena broke the quiet pause. "Are you here?"

Hannah breathed in, tiny hitching gasps released through whispered words. Selena grabbed Hannah's shoulders, fingers digging into her slender frame, desperate and cruel. "Don't leave me, girl. Hannah!"

Hannah slid her hand over her face, curled her grip around her throat. "Mum wasn't dead. Mum wasn't... she'd died, but she wasn't dead. Not when Dad..."

Selena released Hannah's shoulders and stroked the soft skin beneath her jaw. "She wasn't your mum anymore. She wasn't a person after- none of them are. But you are." Selena pressed fingers to the rapid pulse, "I am. We're alive and we haven't been..."

Hannah looked at Selena, at the wild look in her delicately slanted eyes. Selena's fingers felt hot around her throat. "Selena, what if we're all that's left?"

Selena twisted her wrist, traced Hannah's open lips. "It's the same if we aren't. We keep on."

Hannah kissed the tips of Selena's fingers. In the echoing dark they touched devastation. And they kept on.

End.
